The goaltender sinks into his net
he is the teams best bet
even though the team is winning now
one false move and they have lost pow
You wonder what goes through his mind
as the game slows down to a grind
the thing he wants most is to help his team
but that might only be a foolhardy dream
He won the cup but he's getting old
now he needs what he's been told
but, sometimes he seems to forget
that his reflexes are no longer propelled with a jet
He is fifty years old and wants to stop playing
he makes a save and on the ice he is laying
he has suffered a severe heart attack
and is being tended to by the janiter, Jack
He has now become dead
not from a bullet made from lead
but when keep at something for years and longer
remember the story of the goaltender
