Numbers - L.I.

This picture reminds me of the poem because it shows numbers, randomly placed in a spiral. This is a great example of numbers because it shows how numbers are everywhere and in everything. You can read this as one huge number, or in many separate numbers. You can use them to describe, and you can use them to figure out. Life is one big jumble of numbers.

This poem gave me the impression that no matter what kind of situation it is, there are numbers. No matter where or when, there are numbers. It gave me the impression that numbers aren't difficult of tricky. They are easy in every way. It is us that makes them more difficult.

The most interesting phrase in my opinion is this:

"Even subtraction is never loss,

just addition somewhere else:
five sparrows take away two,
the two in someone else's
garden now."

This is the most interesting because it shows almost optimism in numbers. When life is negative (subtraction), it will always turn around (addition). This is displayed in this phrase. Just because two sparrows have flown away, doesn't mean there gone. They are happiness in someone else's life.

O Captain! My Captain! J.S.

In this poem by Walt Whitman he is reffering to Abraham Licoln as his captain, his rolemodel, his dream. Abraham Licoln was Walt's captain because he was brave, he told the truth, and stood up for his people.
O Captain! My Captain! makes me feel despondent, I don't like the feeling that someone would commit murder, or even think of that. I feel bad for Walt Whitman because when you believe in someone and they make your dreams come true, when they die you feel like your dreams are crushed and you have nothing left. I feel this way when I read the poem because of all the descriptive words used in the poem, that make it like a story. The words and phrases that sugest how Walt Whitman is feeling are mainly in the last two verses, one of my favorites is
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up--for you the flag is flung for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribboned wreaths for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
You've fallen cold and dead.
I think this shows how Walt Whitman feels because it sounds like he is trying to wake Abraham up from slumber, with no hope that it will ever work, also he talks a little bit about a funeral, and how he should come back and see how much everyone loved him. And when Walt calls him father that shows that they have such a good relationship, and Walt really feels upset about his death.

I chose the picture on the left because with these numbers you can make any number. With one and nine you can make 91 or 19 or even 9.1 with lots more possibilities. Also with every number there is some thing new to do. I chose the picture on the right because you can do even more things with numbers. You can add, subtract compare numbers. There's no end to numbers!

The poem reminds me of hiis books in so many ways, because when you hear the verse

Twas brillig, and the slithy toves,

 Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:

All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
It's funny, because in the Alice and wonderland stories there are different creatures and vocabulary, for example in Alice and wonderland you have the wicked queen, all the different animals and the mad hatter, the vocabulary used to describe those charecters is somewhat like the vocabulary in this poem, most of the words are not even real.

It uses diefferent vocabulary

 This exact picture was brought to mind when i read this poem, it is a picture from a game in the Mega-Man series, the reason it was rememebered is because it talks about how  generous numbers are and this character is generous and his name is Zero like the number.

Imagine By: John Lennon

I think that the song Imagine by John Lennon is poetic because all of the lines rhyme, It tells of a better time, and it also is very deep. It's lyrics mean a lot of things and it is all that god wants (except for the no religion part). I think that this song tells of a peaceful happy time because of when it says that there's "nothing to kill or die for".
