I think that Shel Silverstien is saying that there is a place were everything is good and not destroyed by thought. And when it says "For the children, they mark, and the children there know,"i think that he is talking about innocence. Because only young children know real innocence, because when you get to a certain things like friends and boyfriends and girlfriends come up.. and it's not the same like when you were in JK and everyone was friends and you did not about the places were lies and deceit spawn. It says "Let us leave this place where the smoke grows black and the street winds and bends. Past the pits where the asphalt grow." I think that the poem means to always look for innocence and when lies come up to taunt us, push them and look for the place were the sidewalk ends.
A program to use to provide a back ground that I like would probably be Movie Maker.
I think that what Shel Silverstein was trying to say in this poem is that you must take life slowly (...we shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,...) and that you should follow your dreams and your passions until the very end of life (...And watch were the white chalk arrows go, To the place were the sidewalk ends,...). It also tells you that there is a time in your life were you have to make a choice of what you want to do in life (There is a place were the sidewalk ends, And before the street begins,...) and it also says that everyone knows that time, weather it has already happened or it is yet to come (For the children, they mark, and the children, they know…). I also think that the word “sidewalk” represents our child hood where we must still be guided by your parents, and the “asphalt flowers in the black smoke” represent false hopes or beautiful things that we can’t have yet tempt us into evil.
Programs I would use to provide a background to a poem I liked would be "Movie Maker" and "Frames". "Movie Maker" because I could find pictures and put them in sequence that matches the poem, and "Frames" because you can make pictures move from place to place and you can create cool backgrounds.
I think that Shel Silverstein is saying that we shouldn't speed up what is not meant to be sped up, when she writes," We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow..." and when Silverstein write,"And watch where the chalk-white arrows go to the place where the sidewalk ends" I think she is also saying that we shouldn't slow anything down or make it last longer. All in all I think Shel Silverstein is saying that we should let everything walk their own walk without meddling. We should just let it be!
Some programs that enable you to do things similar to this are Frames and Movie Maker. You can import pictures to use as backgrounds and have the cool transitions between slides on Movie Maker, but on Frames you can make picture animations. I haven't really looked into it, but I'm assuming that Prezi can do something along those lines as well.
I think Shel Silverstien is trying to say that Where the Sidewalk ends there are only new beginings, (There is a place where the sidewalk ends, and before the street begins). Also I think the poem is saying that if you take life slowly and take time to smell the roses, and just relax (We should walk with a walk that is measured slow). I also think it is referring to how sometimes you have to give yourself credit for the things you have done and relax in the peppermint wind (And there the moonbird rests from his flight to cool in the peppermint wind). I think the moonbird is a imitation of humans, when the poem says rest from flight, it means rest from work, and running around, and just take some time to think. I also think that the poem could be saying that sometimes you have to make hard choices, but you always have to keep in mind that whatever happens someone will always love you (There is a place where the sidewalk ends, and before the streets begin. But in a way we can't forget that it is also reffering to children and how sweet, deep and intelligent they are, (For the children they mark, and the children they know). I think it says that children know different things that happen, but are so innocent.
I think a program that would be good for the backrounds would be Moviemaker because you can find intresting backrounds, and transtions, but I think frames would nbe best because on one of the slideshows on Frames it showed animation.
I think Shel Silverstein is saying that some things are peaceful and quiet and restful like a walk that is measured and slow or the pepperment winds to cool in. There are also things that are gloomy and not peacful and not quite relaxing like a place where the smoke blows black, and the dark street winds and bends. It is basically saying to get away from those merky, gloomy things and walk to where the sidewalk ends.
I think I would use movie maker to get a backround image or even a video for a poem I liked and I think it would look really great.
